What Is a Drive-In Racking System?

Drive-in racking is a high-density storage system in which pallets are stored several positions deep within dedicated rack lanes. Instead of travelling along an aisle beside every pallet position, the forklift enters the lane and places pallets on support rails.

A drive-in lane has a common entry and exit, so pallets are normally handled using the FILO method: the first pallet placed in the lane is the last pallet removed. This arrangement is most practical when each lane can be assigned to the same or compatible stock.
