One Storage Challenge, Many Possible Configurations

Warehouses, production areas and commercial storerooms rarely operate in exactly the same way. Some facilities need open-front shelving for direct access to cartons and components. Others require wider bays, taller frames or stronger levels for bulky and heavier goods. Buildings with generous clear height may also be able to organise stock vertically instead of continuing to consume floor area.

The installations shown in our project gallery demonstrate this flexibility. Compact blue-and-yellow shelving supports accessible storage in a smaller room, while larger blue-and-orange structures use taller frames and wider bays for industrial environments. Long rows of light-coloured shelving also show how a modular layout can create organised storage zones across a factory floor.

What Should Be Planned Before Choosing a Rack?

A suitable system begins with accurate information about the operation. Rack dimensions alone do not confirm whether a proposed configuration will suit the goods or the way they are handled.

Confirm the product type, dimensions and maximum intended load for each shelf or beam level.

Space & Height

Measure the usable floor area, clear height, doors, columns and fixed building services.

Access & Workflow

Review picking frequency, aisle needs and whether goods are moved manually or with handling equipment.

How the Layout Supports Daily Operations

An effective storage plan balances capacity with access. Closely arranged bays may increase the number of storage positions, but workers and equipment still need practical routes for loading, picking and inspection. Shelf heights should reflect the actual products, while aisle widths and rack orientation should support the intended handling method.

Adjustable levels can help a facility accommodate products of different heights and respond to changing storage requirements. For large, heavy, bulky or awkward goods, a properly specified heavy duty storage racking system can provide direct access and make practical use of vertical space.

Where a building has substantial unused height and the operation handles small to medium goods, a multi-tier racking system may be worth assessing. The right direction depends on loading, clear height, picking flow, stairs, walkways and the method used to transfer goods between levels.
